I Heart Coco Chanel!!

I have always admired the elegance of Chanel's classic designs, however after watching the Chanel inspired movie, "Coco Before Chanel", I have a renewed love for her and the fashion house that still bears her name.

Not only was the movie an amazing love story - comparable to those of Jane Austin, but the strong independent personality of Coco Chanel leaves you no choice but to admire her and her style. A feminist before her time, Coco managed to build a fashion empire during a time when women were barely permitted to work outside of the home. Truly an inspiration to all women and all fashionistas!! Be sure to check out the movie if you have time!!
Coco Chanel once said that, "In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different." It is this difference which I have always strived to have. It is this difference which sets you apart from all of the others who simplicity becomes mundane.

The Little White Dress

No, I am not referring to THE little white dress all of us girls look forward to wearing on our wedding day. The little white dress that I am referring to is much more flexible but still gives you that special tingle and makes you feel ultra special!!

The Spring Summer runways were covered with the little white dress which has replaced the little black dress, at least for this season. Although it is not black, the little white dress should give the same effect as the little black dress - classic, sexy and is perfect for any occasion.

I think it can be worn in a variety of different ways and for a variety of different occasions. It would look great with a summer tan during the day and on into the night.  For this outfit I stuck with the simple black and white, which I think has sort of a classic feel. I am excited however to spice up the look with a hint of color by adding a scarf or some brightly colored shoes.

And a final curtsey!!

Prairie Wife and Zebra Stripes

When I put this dress on, I felt like a prairie wife who had to settle the land, milk the cows and bake the bread.  Although I do bake my own bread, I am not so sure about the milking the cow part. I must say that I feel a bit out of my comfort zone in this vintage dress.

Dress: Vintage
Zebra Scarf: Vintage
Belt:Vintage
Tights:???
Slouch Socks: Bought in Peru
Boots: Frye

Although I did put a lot of love and care into this dress, I have to say that I am not 100% sold on it. I bought it last year, however it was waaayyyyyy too big. Seeing some potential in the capped princess sleeves and the amazing wooden buttons, I altered the dress from a size 14 to a size 6. Now that it fits me to a tee, I am not sure that I want it anymore. If anyone out there takes a liking to the dress, let me know and I will send it your way. I guess this will kind of be like my first unofficial give away!!

Cheers,
Karen

A Party for Your Hair!!

I thought I would follow up my last post with a bit of an explanation for the massive bow in my hair. I know that the fashionistas who follow the blog will have long known about the hair bow/knots that we have been seeing this season, but I also know that some of my readers will have wondered what was going on with the bow.

The hair bow trend started out on the Spring Summer 2010 runways as a bit of an exaggerated bow, like the ones as seen in Marc by Marc Jacobs below.

These Boots are Made For Walking.....

This weekend my mom and I went to an amazing garage sale in a near by town. The lady in charge must have been a fashionista herself back in the day because she had a great collection of fashion items. I bought an entire box of scarves circa 1980 for 24 Cents each, one of which I am wearing. And of course I bought these cute little red rubber boots. Not only do they fit my to a tee but they have a cute little heel on them as well. I know that I was supposed to wait until it rains to wear them, but there is no rain in the forecast in the near future.  So I decided to put together an outfit despite the lack of rain and use them for walking rather than to repel the rain.

Ultra Shiny Lip Gloss

Now that summer is here, it seems like I am wearing more and more lip gloss. It just seems to look so fresh, like the dew on a beautiful summer's morning. Lately, I have been really into the ultra shiny Juicy Tubes by Lancome - My favorite color is berry bold!!

They are only slightly flavored and seem to enhance the natural color of your lips with the perfect shade of color. You can also enhance your favorite color of lipstick by layerering the lip gloss over top, which is also what I like to do sometimes.

I think my favorite summer style will be a high bun on top of my head with a great lip gloss. A naturally beautiful look and great for the hot weather!!

Life Is Like A Rose!!

The trees have finally turned green here in Saskatchewan, signally that Spring is finally here. While the flowers are not yet blooming, I am waiting in anticipation for them to come out!! In the mean time however, I found these pretty pair of rose print tights. I think they are a bit flashy and not for everyday, but they are perfect for beautiful Spring weather.

Our First Home

First of all, I want to say a huge thanks to The Pale and Pallor Princess for giving me a Beautiful Blogger Award. I am honored and thrilled that you would pick me!!!!

Secondly, I would like to apologize for being a little bit tardy on my blog posts since I have been back in Canada, but Dominic and I just bought our first house. It is not very big and it needs alot of renovations, but we are super excited. We have been working really hard on the renovations so hopefully we will be able to move in within the next few weeks. But renovations always take longer than expected, so we will have to wait and see.  Either way, I will be sure to keep you updated on the progress of the renovations!!

Third, I wanted to thank Wild Bird Vintage for inspiring me to wear my pink jeans again. I haven't worn them since Mexico and they were starting to collect a little bit of dust. Anyways, you should check out her blog to view some of the great outfits she put together with her red jeans!!!

Killer Moose on the Loose!!

One of my favorite things about staying at my parents farm is being able to run in the most serene surrounds in the world. Today however, as Dominic and I went for a late afternoon run we were encountered by a big scary moose. At first we thought, "Oh, he is far way, let's take a look!" But suddenly, he began charging towards us at full speed. As a consequence we also started running, as fast as we could!! I was so scared and out of breath, but luckily he stopped running towards when we were about one kilometer away! There's never a dull moment around here!!

Anyways,  I thought I would conquer my fear by doing my photo shoot at the same spot we saw the moose!! I know this is not the most exciting outfit as jeans can sometimes become mundane, but sometimes it just feels right to put your favorite pair of jeans on. Doesn't it??

I am actually hanging out at the farm this weekend because my sister and her family are coming for a visit. If I were going out, this is what I would wear, either way, this is what I will be wearing and I am sure I will have a great time with my sister as we always do!!

Hints of Blue!!

There are hints of blue popping up everywhere this season. It seems most of the Spring/Summer lines have at least a bit of blue hidden in the collection!! I am not talking about an overwhelming amount of blue - but just enough to give your outfit a bit of color.

This outfit was inspired by the hints of blue in Saskatchewan - the clear blue sky and the running water in the creek behind my house!! It seems that since I have been back in Canada, I have been really taken my inspiration from the natural prairie and the people that first settled the land - hence the blue and brown Prairie dress from Dace!! Not only because it is about 30 degrees cooler here than in Mexico, but also because I am surrounded by a completely different setting and the fun loving colors of Mexico just don't seem to fit here!

What inspires you??? Your friends?? Bloggers??? Your city surroundings?? Hollywood Stars???
