Babylonstoren - A Boutique Hotel

As I have mentioned before, we are moving to Victoria in the new year. We already rented a house there so that we arrive we have a place to go. The upstairs of the house has a loft style bedroom which I am super excited about but also a little worried about how I am going to decorate it. As such, I have been looking for loft style design inspiration and I came across this beauty. It is a Babylonstoren, stylish boutique hotel in South Africa which also doubles as a working farm. So guests can enjoying harvesting food from their garden  and cooking it is their stylish abode. I have to say it sounds a lot like our house in Saskatchewan. What do you say, would you spend your vacation at a place like this??

Summer Destinations......Merida, Mexico

Dominic and I are not known for planning ahead. In fact, most of our decisions are made spur of the moment. I don't know if this is the most effective way of making decisions, but it is our way and we enjoy lives because of it. That is why it may be hard to believe that, for once, we have actually planned a trip ahead and we are going to Merida, Mexico at the end of August. For us, booking flights for a trip three months in advance is almost unheard of!!  But we are super excited about it and I have already begun my search for some cute sun dresses that will keep me nice cool on those hot hot Mexican summer days. These are some of the sights that I am looking forward to seeing while we are there. If you have been there before and you have any must sees, I would love to hear about them!!Do you have any travel plans this summer??

I think it is going to be the perfect combination of old world charm, historical ruins and of course sandy beaches !!

Happy International Women's Day

Today is THE day to celebrate the achievements of women over the past century. While we have come along way from the first international women's day in 1911, I think we still have a long way to go to achieve true equality.
International Women's Day 100 years

A few Stats which may be of interest to you!!
  • Of the world's 1.3 billion poor people, it is estimated that nearly 70 per cent are women.
  • Between 75 and 80 per cent of the world's 27 million refugees are women and children.
  • Only 28 women have been elected heads of state or government in this century.
  • Women hold 11.7 per cent of the seats in the world's parliaments.
  • Of the world's nearly one billion illiterate adults, two-thirds are women
  • Two-thirds of the 130 million children worldwide who are not in school are girls
  • The majority of women earn on average about three-fourths of the pay of males for the same work, outside of the agricultural sector, in both developed and developing countries
  • In most countries, women work approximately twice the unpaid time men do
  • The value of women's unpaid housework and community work is estimated at between 10-35 per cent of GDP worldwide, amounting to $11 trillion in 1993.

If you have some extra time kicking around, you should watch this documentary, "The F Word, " which  aired this week on CBC.

Are you doing anything to celebrate today? We are attending the Scene and Heard Women's Film Festival which is being presented in honor of International Women's Day.

Ciao,
Karen
