Spring's Top Trends: Maxi Skirts

Maxi skirts are quickly becoming one of the most popular trends this season. I for one am definitely jumping on the maxi train as they are not only stylish but they are super functional for the following reasons. 

• First, a good maxi skirt will keep you cool during the hot summer days and warm for the cool Canadian nights. 
• Second, although they encompass a lot of material, maxi skirts create the most amazing hour glass figure leaving just enough to the imagination. 
• Third, there are so many amazing prints out there so your options for the perfect maxi dress will be endless.

Finally, I will leave you with one more tip, make sure you get the right length skirt for your body. If you are going for a floor length make sure it just touches the floor but doesn't drag behind you. If the skirt is a little shorter, go for an ankle length look but be sure that it covers your ankles and wear some super cute shoes/boots to make it look like it is supposed to be that long. So, get out there and find the perfect on for you! I picked up this skirt at Zara and not only is the cut amazing but the print in right on trend!

Patinage en la Prairie

As I mentioned earlier, we spend a lot of our holiday skating on outdoors ponds here in Saskatchewan. Despite my childhood skating lessons, I have to say that I am not the greatest skater ever but I do enjoy it and I think I am getting better at it. Anyways, this was my go-to skating outfit this season.

Snow Day!!!

One of my favorite things about St.John's is the Snow Day. A Snow Day is when it snows so much over night that the entire city shuts down until the roads can be cleared and people can get out of their houses. Yesterday, was a snow day which meant that we basically had a weekend during the week. If you can believe it, all of the snow in these pictures came in just one day!! Anyways, I took advantage of the snow day by going shopping and I actually bought my Christmas/New Years dress which I am so excited to wear!! After our little shopping excursion we met some friends at the pub for nachos and chatted the day away by watching the snow lightly fall!! It was a perfect day!!

Autumn Leaves

Despite the odd storm here and there, the fall weather out here on the East coast of Canada has been amazing so far. And since we are only out here until the middle of December, we are trying to take advantage of the time we have left out here. We stopped to take these photos while on our way to brunch downtown at Blue on Water, which was delicious by the way. To take the chill off, we brought along some warm chai tea to keep us toasty warm on our walk!! Hope you are enjoying fall as much as I am!!

Shades of black and grey...

I must start by apologizing for the lack of outfit posts lately but I was busy getting settled in to St. John's living. In addition, I have been feeling a bit low on my outfit choices.  It is not that I do not own many clothes, I do, however, I just did not bring that many of them with me to St.John's. I was only able to bring two suitcases with me, and one of those was full of housewares. As a result I kinda feel like I am doing the 30 for 30 challenge, only it is not by choice!! So, to refresh my wardrobe I picked up this cute little number from Joe Fresh! Paired with a chambray shirt, I think it is the perfect outfit fall outfit!!

Signs of Change

Well fall is finally upon us, which always means big changes around our household. Soon it will be time to pack up our things and head back to the city. We will again be heading back to St. John's Newfoundland which I am so excited about. The city, located on an island off the east coast of Canada, feels like a secret little gem just waiting to be discovered. And although I have enjoyed everything about the prairies this summer, I am excited to smell the humid salty air and hear the amazing sound of the waves crashing up against the shore. 

One thing that our life of moving every six months has taught me, is that you have to enjoy and take it your surroundings where ever you are. So for now, I will enjoy the prairie harvest air, the most fantastic sunsets in the world, the the changing colors of leaves to brilliant hues of yellow, orange and red and of course my family which I always miss when I go away!! I am not sure if everybody would enjoy our lifestyle of moving all the time, but I love it and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Pretty Pretty Peonies

I had such a lovely weekend with my sister and her family in Regina. And as such, I recruited my sister to be my blogger assistant for the weekend!!! So, not only did I convince her to take my weekly photos but she also did my make-up!! Although she has a professional day job, she secretly loves  everything about make-up! And if you ask me, I think that she did a splendid job with me!! Welcome to her photo/make-up  debut!! 

It is currently the season for peonies in Saskatchewan. And since my sister has the most amazing peonies in her front yard, I couldn't miss the opportunity to take some photos of them!! I think a bouquet of pink peonies would be so lovely for a wedding. I wanted these for my wedding, but sadly they were out of season when we got married. But, I will definitely have these for my second wedding (Dominic and I had so much fun at our first wedding that we have decided that we will get married every ten years. Why not right?)!

Leopard Print Polk-a -Dots

I have had this Badgley Mischka leopard print purse since Christmas and somehow it has never made it on the blog!! And even though leopard print has been a bit overplayed in the last little while I do love it  as it seems to bring a little spice to every outfit I wear!! I think it may just become my summer staple!!

Color Your World

One thing I learned on my semester abroad in Sweden, is that scarves are a necessity for every outfit!!! I mean not only do they keep you warm but they give your outfit that chic twist that makes you and your outfit unique!! Plus, who doesn't look fantastic with a little bit on color by their face!!  

So, if you are feeling like you need to update your wardrobe, just go out and buy a new scarf or an old thrifted one which nobody else will have, except you!! I found this gorgeous scarf at Winners and I can't seem to get enough of it. I love the multitude of colors and the Southwest Pattern which seem to  make every one of my outfits feel like Spring.

Almost Time For Sunnies!!

It almost looks like fall in these pictures, but nevertheless, it is Spring. Since it is our first Spring here in Newfoundland, we are never really sure what to expect from the weather, which I must say, has been quite sporadic. But regardless of the wind and the snow and the sleet and the rain, each cloud has a silver lining. In this case, the silver lining is the SUN which is getting consistently warmer and allowing me to wear my Sunnies which I desperately missed over the cold and cloudy winter!!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!! Dominic and I just had a quiet weekend at home, since we both had a bit of a cold and it was windy and snowing all weekend. As such, we decided to take some photos inside of our house. I know this is not our normal fare, but it is nice to switch it up once in a while. 

On another note, I am happy to report that the jean on jean look is going to be sticking around for another season!! Only this season, it will have more of a 70's vibe, at least that is what I am going for! As, the options of jean on jean are endless, with the variety of washes and items that can be mixed and matched, (ie. jeans, jean skirts, jean shorts, jean vests, jean shirts)I think this will be one of my go to summer trends !! 

You may remember The Jean Look I wore last summer. I am not sure why, but to me it seems as though the jean look is a summer thing. So, since it is now officially spring, I thought I would pull out my jean overalls! Plus, I wanted to showcase my new and lovely clogs which I purchased here in St.John's at Twisted Sisters Boutik (one of the stores that I have been frequenting here in St. John's). Although there is still too much snow to wear them outside, I cannot wait to wear them with some cute socks!!
