I must say however the transition from washing to not washing your hair is not instantaneous and is actually not that easy. When I began this endeavor, the first few days without washing my hair were excruciating. Not only did I feel a bit dirty but my hair looked and felt dirty as well. But, since I was dedicated to this experiment I stuck it out. And by the third week, my hair actually started to clean itself. Now I shower everyday but only wash my hair once every three or four days. And by only shampooing my hair every four days, the natural oils have time to make my hair look and feel amazing.
I would love to hear your thoughts on hair washing??? Would you ever try cutting down on the amount of times you wash per week??
Hint: A great time to start the transition from washing to not washing is on a weekend camping trip.
Love,
Karen
I've been trying to get down to once a week, but I just can not! I have to wash it twice a week, and 2-3 days it must be worn up in a bun or under a hat, haha. I've never washed my hair everyday, if i did, i wouldn't have time anything else since it takes me so long to dry and style it!
ReplyDeleteI use to bleach my hair and to preserve the blond highs + lows, and w/o drying it out I would wash my hair every third day. I did go through that how gross out period, but eventually it works out. Today, I think it depends on how strenuous my day has been, even the weather dictates how often I wash it.

I actually have started doing this as well.. I only wash my hair every other day and condition it almost every day. I also only wash my roots since my hair is long. Being too clean is definitely bad for your hair. My hair is much healthier since I have started doing this. Have a wonderful weekend!

I have tried doing that but think my roots look super oily. I wash everyday instead and use a really rich conditioner on my ends to keep my locks shiny. I also recommend doing a cellophane treatment for extra shine. xo style, she wrote
ReplyDeleteI'm in the midst of that transition myself! It had never occurred to me not to wash my hair everyday, but I got so... tired of it! I've started cutting way back on the number of times I wash my hair when I shower, about every 3 days.
ReplyDeleteOne huge life savor (for girls like us with bangs!) is dry shampoo. I just spray it on my bangs and it freshens them up for another day!

PS: Thanks for the comment about my art! Right now all I have for my art online is a page on my blog with images my personal email address listed for people that are interested. Not much of the balloon stuff is up yet, but it will be in the next month! Here is the link

I just dont know if my hair would handle this. I have always washed it everyday. With curls you dont have good second day hair, but maybe I could cut down the number of times I use shampoo but conditioner is a must!!

My mom has her beauticians license and she has told me this before. Like you I do not wash my hair every day. Usually mine goes every 2-3 days before I wash it again.
ReplyDeleteThere were times when i washed my hair everyday, and that's when it was worse! Now I wash it every 2 or 3 days and it can get a little bit oily on the 3rd day but nothing too bad, and it's much healthier! Shampoo has harsh chemicals and i have to use harsh ones for other issues, so I am happy with washing it every 2-3 days now!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post! You have inspired me not to wash my hair today but to instead sit around in my slacks playing the sims all day. :P But on a serious note, I too have been washing my hair every morning (with the most expensive salon recommended products) and by the end of each day without fail my hair returns to this overly greasy state.. So what your hair stylist suggested sounds like a good idea. :) Only problem for me is having a greasy full front fringe for 3-4 days straight. :( x
ReplyDelete@ rebelrousher..
ReplyDeleteTry using a leave in conditioner or something similar on the days inbetween washing your curls. :) A great product that I'm currently using (and about to run out of lol) is Wella's BioTouch 'Sun Vitamin Shake'. It's light weight but really does the job and it actually protects your hair from sun damage (it also smells AMAZING, kind of like a milk shake!).
Hope this helps! x
Hmm I've heard this works wonders but I'm too scared to take the plunge! My hair gets to knotted up between washings, did you notice any change in the texture of your hair when you switched?

I do wash my hair everyday as I live in a pollutant metropolitan city which makes it seem so impossible not to wash my hair everyday. as a matter of fact, I cant stand with my unclean hair.
ReplyDeletethe bottom line is, if you want to wash your hair everyday, try to balance it using conditioner, or hair vitamin and regularly do the hair treatment in salon :)

hahaha, I juuuuust read an article on this on Wednesday and have been wondering if I should be doing the same....So, I'm conducting an experiment. Usually I wash my hair everyday, but I'm going to cut it down slowly to every second day. On the first day of no hair washing (but still showering) I found my hair less frizzy, but more limp. Hmmmm. I'm not sure about this. I'm going to try it for at least a month or so, guess we'll have to see the results.
