Jules Power

I have just recently found this new Canadian designer and her collection is amazing. "Dedicated to natural condfidence and femininity, Jules Power is a Toronto based desinger with a signature style". Previously designed for Roots, Danier Leather and Joe Fresh (one of my faves), Jules launched her own line in 2009. Available online and accross Canada in designer boutiques, Jules Women's line is sure to turn heads!!

Here are some of my favorites from her Fall 2010 line.

A Pink Thumb?!?

I am not one of those people that you would call a green thumb (def: someone who has an extraordinary ability to grow plants well). In fact, I may just be the opposite of that definition. In my many attempts at growing flowers in the past, I have forgotten to water them, placed them in the wrong light, and have even forgotten about them completely. However, my luck may be changing as I have succesfully transplanted and grown my very own rose bush. I was so proud to see the first buds on the plant and even happier when I saw what a beautiful flower it bloomed into. So, although I don't have a green thumb, I think it may be safe to say that I have a pink thumb (def: someone who has an extraordinary ability to grow roses well)!!!!

Hope you are having a lovely day,

Karen

The Hostess With the Mostess

Although we have been living in our house for over five months, we have finally finished enough of our renovations to have a house warming party. So last weekend we had the big event and I think it turned out to be quite successful.  The fire pit in our backyard lit up the night with warmth and a gentle light while the inside of the house was full of wine, great food, laughter and smiles.

Considering our house is two hours away from any major city in Saskatchewan, we were so happy with the efforts that all of our friends and family made to come out!! It was so great to have everybody there and it meant a lot that they could all make it. There were way more people than we ever expected - but I always say, "the more, the merrier".

Since the interior decorating of our house was inspired by a Swedish Cottage, we thought that an appropriate food theme would also be Swedish. We had a smorgasbord of gravlax, beet root salad and venicen burgers (and of course mushroom burgers) all cooked up on our new bbq. The food was wonderful and we thank everyone for all of the help you gave us in preparing the food.

The party also coincided with the birthday of Dominic's father and our dear friend Kris with a K. While we normally would have a party to celebrate both birthdays, Kris is currently living in Australia and of course couldn't be here. But we dedicated many shots to him and hope he had a wonderful birthday in Aus!!

Although these photos were not taken the day of the party, this is what I wore. I thought the lady-like inspiration of this dress was a perfect party hostess outfit. I love the fact that I can look like a home-maker and look like I know how to throw a party, when in reality, my wonderful husband did all of the food and drink preparations. I am ever glad I am a woman wearing this dress in 2010 as compared to a woman wearing the dress in the 1950's, as I am sure she would have done ALL of the preparations for the party while taking care of her four children. Oh the joys that feminism have brought us!!

The Snood

Ever since I went to Sweden which was about six years ago, I fell in love with the versatility and beauty of scarfs which are such a big part of Sweden's fashion culture. They can be worn in many ways, with many different outfits, adding that perfect touch color and warmth to any outfit. This may be why I am also really enjoying the snood this season. A snood which is a cross between a scarf and a hood also boasts great versatility.  You can wear it draped over your head like a hood or coiled around your neck like a scarf - you decide but either way it will keep you looking chic, fashionable and toasty warm on those cold, long winter days - a must for anybody living in the north.

If you don't already have one and you are interested in buying one, there are some great ones at ASOS which I have also been eyeing up!!

Alley Cat!!

For the past two weeks,  I have been sitting on a combine for twelve hours a day (yes, I am somewhat of a farmer). And although my ipod is full of podcasts, Spanish language programs and some great music, I must say I am getting a bit bored. So, when we a got a day off due to some rain, we decided to head to the city to treat ourselves with some great food, drink and some treats.

Since I have been wanting a pair of Raybans for sometime now, I thought yesterday sufficed as the perfect day to buy some. Although I have numerous fake pairs in a variety of colors, I just felt like a real pair would change my world. There is just something about wearing a real pair of sunglasses; they feel a little bit heavier, a little bit more authentic and most importantly, make me feel like a million bucks. And although I didn't coordinate this outfit with my new Raybans, I think the combination is stunning.

These Boots Were Made For Walking..... Really????

When I first started this blog, I was positive that I would never, ever, wear a pair of heels. First, I am a little bit clumsy and would hate to fall over and make a complete fool of myself. And second,  I always thought that I was tall enough and didn't need the extra lift. But, this season there were just way to many cute heels that I couldn't resist buying a pair.

While I do love the boots,  I am pretty sure that they do not love me. The first time I wore them, I soon realized that they were not for me. As I am already 5'9, the extra three inches made me tower over everybody and I think I looked like a giant. And since I am not used to wearing heels, my walk definitely exuded inexperience, resulting in a look that just did not seem like me. So, I have decided that 3 inch heels are I can longer be friends........
